Gabriel Martinelli has urged Arsenal to stick together and not lose belief as they look to get out of a sticky patch of results.
The Brazilian has been speaking to TNT Sports Brasil after the loss to Inter Milan in the Champions League continued a negative streak of results for Mikel Arteta’s side.
They had been looking to bounce back after the 1-0 loss to Newcastle United at the weekend but instead fell to another 1-0 defeat courtesy of Hakan Calhanoglu’ s penalty.
It means Arsenal have fallen to defeats in back-to-back games and continued a difficult period in which they were also beaten 2-0 by Bournemouth.
Discounting a 3-0 win against Preston North End in the Carabao Cup on 30 October, it also means their only other win in their last five games in all competitions was a narrow 1-0 success over Shakhtar Donetsk.
It’s been a rough period for Arteta and his men, who had hoped to be competing on all fronts this season but find themselves seven points behind Liverpool in the Premier League and five points behind them in the Champions League.
Questions are being asked but Martinelli insists they cannot allow those doubts to creep into the squad and instead they have to believe to get back on top.
“We know about the quality of our team, of the players we have,” he said.
“We have to stay together. Don’t start doubting anyone We know about the last few seasons we’ve had. So, I think we have to keep working. It’s normal in football.
“There are times when you don’t score so many goals. Or someone is not doing so well. I think we have to keep doing what we’ve been doing for the last two or three years. We have a very good team. So, we believe in ourselves. I’m sure we’ll get back on top.”
