Wednesday’s Spanish sport newspapers, on the whole, aren’t great reading for Celtic fans after Atletico Madrid dumped them out with a 6-0 victory at the Wanda.
It was a big disappointment for Brendan Rodgers’ side after their great draw with Los Rojiblancos at Celtic Park, but the gulf between the two clubs was always bigger than that match suggested.
Player ratings are as tough as would be expected.
AS, despite having a column in their newspaper comparing Celtic players to William Wallace, only thought Joe Hart and Callum McGregor were worthy of even the lowest of match ratings, everyone else got a blank.
Marca, the best known Spanish sport newspaper, are a little kinder. They given the lowest marks to Joe Hart, Callum McGregor, Matt O’Riley, Pablo Bernardo, David Turnbull, Luis Palma, and Oh Hyeon-gyu.
Everyone else, including Brendan Rodgers, isn’t deemed worthy of a mark.
Daizen Maeda gets his own special column. Many watching the match thought his red card was harsh, but not Marca, who say the tackle was ‘criminal’ and even the player knew it was the right decision.
They say Maeda ‘ruined the game’ for his side.
