Young Boys striker Meschack Elia has admitted tonight’s clash with Manchester City is the biggest game of his life, as he looks to get the better of what he considers the best defenders in Europe.

The striker has been speaking to Blick ahead of this evening’s clash, which sees current Champions League holders Manchester City take on Young Boys in Switzerland on matchday three in Group G.

Pep Guardiola’s side are expected to run out comfortable winners against the Swiss side, who are joint bottom with Crvena Zvezda with a point each.

Manchester City, in contrast, have won both of their games so far and look likely to make it to the knockout stages with time to spare.

Young Boys will be hoping to stop that from happening though, and they have proven to be tricky opposition for English sides in European competitions down the years.

Whether they can repeat that will be dependent on how they perform at both ends of the pitch and whether they can take full advantage of any chances that might come their way.

That means the pressure is on players like Elia to put in top performances, something he admits won’t be easy against the current Manchester City backline.

“It’s the biggest game of my life! Manchester City is the best team in the world, no question,” he said.

“Let’s put it this way: I’ve been able to play some really big games and I’m sure that more great things await me if I continue to improve.

“I have never played against Manuel Akanji. This will definitely be a great duel. He is definitely one of the world’s best defenders.

“That’s a super defence! But duels like this help you get better. I watched a lot of City games and kept asking myself the same question: What would I have to do to somehow get through this…”
