In case Aston Villa are hoping Emiliano Martinez can get some rest during international breaks in they near future, it seems they better forget about that.

TyC Sports today features a story claiming the 31-year-old has a ‘clear goal’ at the national team, which is to become their goalkeeper with the most appearances.

Martinez is said to be completely engaged in his ‘plan’, even though he’s currently just the 8th player in that list.

There’s quite a long way to go, as the Aston Villa goalkeeper has 33 appearances so far, while Sergio Romero played 96 games.

That’s why Martinez ‘wants to be present at as many of Argentina’s national team matches as possible, whether it’s a final or a friendly on the other side of the world’.

Following the World Cup title from last year, the Aston Villa goalkeeper holds an incredible record for his country, with 24 clean sheets in those 33 matches.

He made his international debut a little late, at the age of 28, and that’s why he must run against the clock to get the record he wants. That means he’ll want to play as many games as possible for a long time, and can only think of vacations in summers with no international tournaments.
