Newcastle United beat Paris Saint-Germain thanks to ‘enthusiasm, commitment and self-sacrifice’, all of which were missing from the French side.
That’s according to Pierre Ménès, who has praised Newcastle and their performance while laying into the Parisians on YouTube show Pierrot le Foot.
Newcastle marked their first Champions League home game in 20 years in style earlier this week with a comprehensive 4-1 win over PSG at St James’ Park.
In a near perfect performance from Eddie Howe’s side they dominated from minute one and made that count on the scoresheet with an impressive victory.
The praise after the game has been plentiful, with pundits and journalists across Europe hailing their performance.
His start to life at PSG, where he took charge of the new look project this summer, has not been an easy one and Ménès is one of those who is less than impressed, criticising the Spaniard in his praise of Newcastle.
“We had a catastrophic match from PSG. Newcastle won with enthusiasm, commitment and self-sacrifice,” he said.
“How can we talk about this match without coming back to this absolutely aberrant team composition of Luis Enrique, who in his little brain thinks that something that did not work in Clermont will work against Newcastle?
“The Champions League is not a video game, you don’t play with two midfielders and four attackers, it doesn’t exist, it’s unjustifiable, it’s a terrible professional mistake.
“Luis Enrique must stop with this system of four attackers which worked in a very particular context against Marseille, but which cannot work against a well-organized team and especially a team which has shown so much physical vigour and impact.
“What Luis Enrique has been doing since he has been at the head of PSG does not please me, does not convince me, and that worries me.”
