If Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was hoping his departure from Chelsea and subsequent move to Marseille would be the start of a revival, it appears he was mistaken.

That’s at least according to Foot Mercato, who say his poor showing against Brighton last night was the latest in a series of disappointing ones since his arrival.

The striker arrived on a free transfer from Chelsea in the summer, signing in the middle of July after the relevant parties agreed to end his contract at Stamford Bridge following a miserable year-long spell at the club.

He’s bagged four goals and two assists in 11 games so far, not bad numbers by any means and certainly better than Chelsea stats, but it seems they’re less than impressed in Marseille.

FM state that he’s had a ‘more than contrasting start’ to life at the French club and his performance against Brighton is ‘unlikely to help his case’ with the supporters.

According to them it’s clear the striker ‘is in great pain’ and the game against Brighton again ‘displayed all his difficulties’.

He was ‘conspicuous by his absence’ in the game, during which he ‘wandered like a lost soul’ at the forefront of Marseille’s attack.

The performance, which saw him replaced just after the hour mark, left a ‘new bitter feeling’ and saw him criticised elsewhere too, including in local newspaper La Provence.

For now, those watching haven’t turned to complete dislike, but questions are being asked, with the move to bring him in from Chelsea yet to pay off for either party.
