Everton are set to lose the race for the Brazilian youngster Caio Emerson, Sport Witness has learned. The Toffees were one of many clubs who made contact regarding the transfer, but weren’t able to win the competition.
It was Caio Emerson’s personal choice to play in Spain instead of England, seeing Everton lose out. The striker believes he will have an easier adaptation to the local football and culture.
Despite showing great potential in Brazil, the youngster is leaving Corinthians for free because the club made a mistake in the paperwork when signing him from Cruzeiro.
Corinthians have registered him as if they were the only owners, even though they only bought 25% of his economic rights, and never worked to solve the issue. So now that the player turned 18 and the academy contract has expired, he can walk away for free and his agents have kept their percentage.
Whoever wants to sign the striker will only have to pay Corinthians around R$700k (£183k) in training compensation and the solidarity mechanism.
So unless there’s a big turnaround, Caio Emerson will be signing for a club in Spain, leaving Everton and others disappointed. Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Granada are some of the clubs who have shown interest in the past few months.
