Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Sasa Kalajdzic has turned down the chance to return to the Austria set up after a phone call with manager Ralf Rangnick.
That’s according to journalist Peter Linden and ORF in Austria, who both say the striker has elected to take things slowly following his return from injury.
Kalajdzic joined Wolves last summer but only managed 45 minutes on his debut before picking up a cruciate ligament rupture that saw him spend 274 days on the treatment table and miss 37 games last season.
He’s now returned from that injury lay off and is back in the Wolves first team, bagging his first goal against Everton at the weekend and then another in the 5-0 win over Blackpool in the EFL Cup.
Peter Linden reports that Austria boss Rangnick had shown a willingness to have him in his squad for the next international break but that won’t be happening.
He held a ‘telephone conversation’ with the Wolves striker on Sunday after his goal against Everton to discuss the idea, but Kalajdzic made it clear he believes a return would be ‘too soon’ at this stage.
ORF say the same, with it explained that Rangnick has ‘refrained’ from including the Wolves man ‘after a conversation’ between the pair on the matter.
That is something Rangnick himself has confirmed, insisting he won’t be including anyone in his squad “who either came from a long injury or had very little or no time at all.”
It appears he and Kalajdzic have made the sensible choice, preferring him to focus on Wolves and his return from injury rather than rushing ahead and causing potential problems.
