The past week has seen a slight increase in reports claiming that Salernitana are trying to sign Leo Hjelde from Leeds United.

The young defender, who can play in the heart of the defence or on the left, has become a target for the Serie A side, who like his versatility for their squad.

So far, it was mostly about their interest, but Gazzetta dello Sport on Friday have a different angle, suggesting talks are already taking place between the Italians and Leeds.

It’s brief, but very clear, as they claim Salernitana are ‘negotiating’ for Hjelde, whose time at Elland Road appears to be up.

The arrival of Daniel Farke doesn’t appear to have changed that, although it isn’t said whether the young Norwegian would be leaving on a loan or permanently.

The former would make the most sense, but if the new Leeds manager has no intention of playing him down the line, perhaps it might be best for all parties if a full transfer was organised.

One to keep an eye on.
