After the belief a deal was getting closer, it seems Granit Xhaka is undergoing the final steps of his transfer from Arsenal to Bayer Leverkusen.

That comes from Sport Bild in Germany, who have an article claiming they have spotted the Switzerland international ‘in Cologne on Thursday’, where the player is seemingly ‘completing parts of the obligatory medical check’ at the Mediapark clinic.

The Arsenal midfielder has been long linked with a move back to the Bundesliga, where Xabi Alonso wants to make him the centrepiece of his squad, but the Gunners were waiting for the Declan Rice deal to go through before letting Xhaka leave.

With the West Ham star now firmly on his way to London, the former Borussia Mönchengladbach player can now complete his move to Leverkusen, where he is ‘expected to sign a contract until 2027’.

The Arsenal man is seen as the ‘absolute dream player’ for the aforementioned Spanish manager, and the belief is he will take the team ‘to the next level’.

The 30-year-old arrived at the Emirates back in 2016 for a fee of €45m, and has faced a turbulent relationship with the London side’s fans, eventually winning them back over the last season, taking his tally to 297 appearances for the club, scoring 23 goals and assisting his teammates 29 times.
