Newcastle United are considering the possibility of signing Juventus star Leonardo Bonucci in the summer window, according to Calciomercato.
The 36-year-old has a year left on his deal, which includes a €6.5m net salary. The Serie A side’s idea is to part ways with him in this window.
Bonucci was initially determined to stay at Juve but the report states he’s wobbling on that front, possibly because of Newcastle.
It’s claimed the centre-back’s agent is ready to evaluate offers from a top league as a move to Saudi Arabia or MLS has been ruled out.
Calciomercato state ‘there has been a meeting with Newcastle’ over a potential deal for the defender.
The outlet makes it clear that Eddie Howe’s side haven’t yet made a concrete offer but are making assessments with regards to the ‘economic, technical, physical and motivational conditions’ to them evaluate the possibility of signing the player.
Both Bonucci and the Turin club are now ‘waiting’, likely for Newcastle’s decision. Of course, this feels more like the player’s camp and Juventus seeing Newcastle as an opportunity, rather than the Magpies leading the charge.
