As Dele Alli’s loan spell at Besiktas is now coming to an end, it’s probably fair to say the Everton player didn’t live up to expectations in his time in Turkey.
The midfielder only made 15 appearances for the Istanbul side, and has been sidelined for the last couple of months due to a muscle injury.
Besiktas may now obviously regret having him signed from Everton, and quoted by Ajansspor, club director Senol Gunes had some strong words about the 27-year-old.
“Many conversations are outside of us. Beşiktaş management bought players. For us, Dele Alli is also important, so is N’Koudou. Because you pay money. Many clubs have this. If you have a player, you try to win if possible. Dele Alli left for a training session because he was injured. Then we realised he had an operation. Then he didn’t come.”
Besiktas even have a buying option over Dele Alli this summer, but given what he’s shown there, plus his big wages, it’s highly unlikely they’ll make that economic effort.
Alli joined Everton on a free move from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2022, and his few months at the club weren’t great either, with no assists or goals in his 13 appearances.
As he’s now set to return to Goodison Park this summer, there’s still one year left in his contract with the Toffees, and we shall see what will be the solution they’ll have for him, unless there are plans to keep him in the squad, which seems extremely unlikely.
