Nicklas Bendtner and Nottingham Forest are no more. After a huge fanfare when the former Arsenal player joined Forest, and a pretty big interest in the Danish media, everything fizzled out in a way that should probably have been expected.
With his tail between his legs Bendtner is now in the Norwegian league, which is smaller in stature than the Danish league. Signing for Rosenborg, Bendtner will be paid what Ekstra Bladet jokingly call ‘starvation wages’.
That’s about £450k a year, not quite living on the poverty line but much less than Bendtner has been used to previously in his career.
Bendtner’s move from Nottingham Forest to Rosenborg is of course big news in Denmark, where the 29 year old is regarded more as a figure of curiosity these days rather than a serious footballer.
A Danish TV station which already owned the rights to show Norwegian football, but didn’t use them, will now show some matches to feed the interest. Should Bendtner fail in Norway then it’ll be the ultimate embarrassment for the Dane.
