Everton may be given a second shot at Werder Bremen striker Niclas Füllkrug this summer, with a departure from Werder Bremen increasingly likely.
That’s according to BILD, who say the German club’s €38m debt means their star man is likely to be moved on after an impressive campaign.
Füllkrug has 15 goals in 26 games in all competitions this season, including six assists, while he also managed three goals in two games for Germany during this international break.
That’s led to plenty of interest in him and a belief that it is ‘increasingly unlikely’ that he will still be at Bremen by the end of the end of the season.
Despite contract talks being underway the striker ‘is not fighting with all his might’ to stay where he is and Bremen are open to selling as well.
Thus they need ‘significant earnings’ from player sales after the season ends and Füllkrug is the likely candidate, having impressed this season and seen his value continue to rise as a result.
He’s the ‘logical candidate’ to be sold and did have interest in January, when Everton are said to have ‘courted him intensively’.
They’re in desperate need of a striker and were keen to bring in Füllkrug as a result, although it was later made clear that move would make little sense for the player.
Despite that their interest is there, with BILD naming them as his only serious suitors, and Werder’s need for a sale gives them an opportunity to get their man.
Whether they can offer a figure Werder would accept, with it likely to be above €20m, or convince the striker, who is happy where he is and likely to want his ‘first mega contract’ after years in the 2.Bundesliga, is up for debate given the state of their own finances.
Bremen’s need for money gives Everton an opportunity, though, which they’ll surely be exploring given their ongoing need to improve their forward line.
