It’s very rare for players to be contracted to a club for two years, yet never play for them, but that’s exactly what happened to Juanfran during his time at Watford.
Well, he might have signed for the Hornets, but the 28-year-old full-back only spent two months in Watford before being sent out on loan to Deportivo La Coruña for two seasons.
However, things could change very quickly if TV3 are to be believed, as Juanfran could end up at Barcelona outside of the transfer window, with Luis Enrique considering exercising his right to sign an emergency full-back following Aleix Vidal’s season ending injury.
Former Watford defender Juanfran is one of two possible candidates for the role, but Barcelona are being very careful about spending too much, as, ideally, they would sell the purchase player once the season ended.
That is, of course, unless he performs well enough to earn himself a long-term contract at the Catalan club.
What is interesting, however, is that TV3, relayed by Marca, claim Watford still have some kind of option on Juanfran despite him officially being a Deportivo player.
The defender has an €8m release clause, which we assume Watford would have first priority over were someone to meet it.
Despite this, considering Walter Mazzarri couldn’t fit Juan Carlos Paredes in his plans, we doubt he’ll need Juanfran in the near future.
