Gonçalo Guedes is leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers for Benfica, the Portuguese media says.

Several local outlets such as A Bola, O Jogo and RTP all write that Wolves and the Eagles reached a deal for the player’s return to the Estádio da Luz.

Guedes is expected to join Benfica on loan until the end of the season, and according to RTP, the agreement will not include a buying option.

Meanwhile, O Jogo writes that the player should travel to Lisbon to complete the transfer between tonight and tomorrow.

Following an unimpressive start to the season at Wolves, who paid €32.6m to sign the forward from Valencia at the start of the campaign, Guedes started getting linked to a few clubs in the past few days.

Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Benfica were said to be in talks with Jorge Mendes for the transfer. And at one point, it was even reported by the Spanish press that the player’s preference was for a move to the Camp Nou side.

We’re still to see if Barça actually made an effort for the signing, because it didn’t take long before Benfica managed to agree a deal for the move. Guedes’ return to Lisbon is seen as a big deal for the club and the Portuguese media.
