Celtic youngster Mikey Johnston will be returning to Celtic in the summer, once his loan spell at Vitória Guimarães is done with.
A Bola cover the winger today, who joined Vitória Guimarães on loan from Celtic in the summer, in search of regular playing time.
An injury kept him out at the beginning of the campaign, but he’s returned in bits since the beginning of September, making a handful of substitute appearances and bagging an assist in the 2-2 draw with Arouca.
He’s been slowly building his way up to the team and A Bola say today that the Celtic man is ‘already imposing himself’ and ‘gaining body’ at his temporary home.
Johnston now ‘looks certain’ to make a name for himself after his display in that game in which he was a star of the show.
‘Fast, creative and with goals in his veins’ there is a growing hope the Celtic man can kick on and erase a recent past that’s been halted by injuries.
He went to Portugal to get fit and play regularly at a competitive level, with Ange Postecoglou knowing he faced big competition in Celtic’s first-team squad.
His decision to send him out is seen as a ‘lucky’ one for Vitória, who believe they have found another pearl for the remainder of the campaign. However, his stay will be a short-term one.
The newspaper explains that ‘at the end of the season he returns to Glasgow’, hopefully with a season of first-team football under his belt ready to compete with Furuhashi, Abada, Haksabanovic and Jota for a first-team place.
