Player insists he doesn’t regret Liverpool spell – Felt they ‘valued’ him more than others

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Ki-Jana Joever has insisted he doesn’t regret his time with Liverpool, despite failing to make the grade at Anfield.

Hoever made the move to Liverpool as a youngster, electing to leave Ajax’s U17 set-up and his homeland to try and breakthrough in the Premier League.

He rose through the Reds youth ranks over the next couple of years before making his Liverpool debut in 2019, first in the EFL Cup win over MK Dons and then FA Cup defeat to Wolves.

The 20-year-old would only make four appearances in total for Liverpool’s first team, though, with them instead electing to sell him to Wolves in an £8.82m deal in 2020.

Just like at Anfield, he struggled to establish himself at Molineux, so much so that he’s joined PSV Eindhoven on loan this summer in an attempt to get regular playing time and aid his development.

A return to his homeland is something of a backwards step, but Hoever insists he doesn’t regret the decisions he’s made.

“Liverpool came up with the best plan in my eyes,” he told ESPN.

“Everyone thinks it was about the money, but I felt they valued me more at Liverpool than at Ajax at the time.”
