Arsenal are the only club to have ‘really expressed interest’ in signing Juventus’ Arthur Melo this summer.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who state the midfielder’s future is still a problem to be resolved for the Serie A side, weeks after their sporting director, Federico Cherubini, made a trip to London.

Cherubini held talks with intermediaries and leaders of several clubs, including Arsenal. A further meeting was arranged with Arsenal to discuss the 25-year-old’s transfer.

It’s now claimed the Gunners are the ‘only solution’ for the Brazil international. The Turin club have tried to start negotiations by getting a player in exchange for Arthur. They would favour taking one of Gabriel Magalhães or Gabriel Martinelli.

Arthur joined Juve from Barcelona in 2020. The report adds his valuation cannot be less than €46m [since that is the amount left to be amortised] and this is making the potential deal complicated.

If he were to leave on loan this summer, a redemption obligation of at least €35-40m will be required for Juve to make a capital gain.

Calciomercato further states: ‘Precisely June 30th is also an important date from which to leave for the eventual farewell, because at the time of his arrival in Italy the advantages of the Growth Decree were used for the Brazilian and in the case of an early farewell the 2 fiscal years would not be completed, and, consequently, the Treasury would have to be rewarded.’

Arsenal are the only solution for Juventus’ Arthur problem, as Mikel Arteta’s side are the only club to express an interest in securing his services.
