Earlier on Monday, we covered comments Erik ten Hag had made in an interview with De Telegraaf.
The manager, who is expected to arrive in England this week to take up his job at Manchester United, was asked about potentially taking any Ajax players with him.
Jurrien Timber and Anthony were specifically mentioned, and the Dutchman appeared to hint there’s interest in the former: “I think that all top clubs in Europe have Timber in their sights, but I think that currently applies to a lot of Ajax players. If Antony were to go, it would be a loss for Ajax, because you have no one in the current selection who can take over his position.”
The 20-year-old has mainly been used as a central defender at Ajax this season, but can play across the defence. He’s been linked to Bayern Munich previously, and there’s now claims from Germany which back up a Manchester United effort to sign him.
Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg has stated Bayern Munich have made contact, but Manchester United are ‘seriously interested’ in the signing and have been in talks with the player’s entourage.
Ten Hag is obviously the man behind the potential chase, and it could be that Timber is the player he’s identified as the first signing he wants at Old Trafford.
Ajax’s views on this aren’t known yet, but it won’t be long until the Dutch media are giving the stance of the Eredivisie champions, and the level of transfer fee required.
