Leeds United youngster Crysencio Summerville says new manager Jesse Marsch told him he will be back in first-team contention in the future.
Summerville has been a part of the Leeds first-team picture since July last year, having been promoted from the Under 23 set up, which he joined from Feyenoord’s U19s in September 2020.
He has featured for the first team on occasion this season, with former boss Marcelo Bielsa handing him his debut against Newcastle back in September.
Since then, he’s made a handful of appearances in the Premier League and cup competitions, with his last coming in the 2-0 defeat to West Ham in the FA Cup in January.
The American has chosen to focus more on the senior players at the club to boost their efforts to avoid relegation, but Summerville says he’s made it clear that does not mean he is out of the picture.
“I haven’t played since the new manager took over in February,” he told ELF Voetbal.
“He opts for security, for the experienced boys. He stresses that I have to train really hard every game, keep working really hard. Then my chance will definitely come again.
“I really didn’t expect that (his debut). My teammates already told me, ‘Cry, be ready’. I did not really believe in it.
“But around the 55th minute, I was told to start warming up. Then everything went really fast. Raphinha suddenly stood on the sideline and gestured that he wanted out.
“I had to go to the assistant, and before I knew it, the switchboard with my number 38 went up. I was really nervous.”
