Called up for the first time to the France national team to replace Benjamin Pavard, William Saliba could make his debut for his country on Friday night against Ivory Coast.
The first of two friendlies, with the second being against South Africa, the game will take place at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille, which a stadium the Arsenal loanee will know well, since he’s on loan at the Ligue 1 club until the end of the season.
This is why his compatriot and now International teammate Hugo Lloris, who so happens to play for the Gunners’ arch rival Tottenham in the Premier League, feels it could be the right time for him to get his first cap.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of the game, the Spurs star was asked about the Arsenal owned defender.
A lot of praise from the Tottenham goalkeeper, who recently signed a new contract with Spurs until 2024.
As for Saliba, his deal with Arsenal also runs out in 2024, and with Marseille’s loan not including an option to buy, he is currently expected to return to the Emirates come the end of the season.
This means there’s a good chance the Tottenham star and the Gunners’ defender will be playing against each other in the next campaign, as well as featuring for their country.
