This week, following another poor performance from Andreas Pereira, we’ve seen a big reaction from the local Brazilian media, who wondered if Flamengo should really buy the Manchester United player for a €10.5m fee.

Local reports claim the verbal agreement between the clubs is done, and the Rio de Janeiro side should make it official next week, after the Super Cup is played on Sunday.

Now it seems it’s not only the media who’ve been questioning the signing. There are also officials at Flamengo who’ve been pushing for it not to happen.

According to a report from Jorge Nicola, there are ‘important people on the red and black board who’re working behind the scenes’ so the agreement is called off. They’re trying to convince president Rodolfo Landim to give up on the signing.

Besides his unimpressive form, other reasons are said to be Pereira’s age, as he’s just turned 26, and also the fact that his contract with Manchester United expires next year.

The midfielder is loaned to Flamengo until June. The deal included a buying option worth €20m, and even though the Rio de Janeiro side now agreed a deal to sign him for half of that, that still seems to be too much.
