West Ham United have Marseille’s Duje Ćaleta-Car in their sights for the winter market and two days ago, TuttoMercatoWeb reported there has been an ‘acceleration’ in talks between the two clubs.

With less than 24 hours left before the January window closes, L’Equipe now provide their take on the defender’s chances of joining the Hammers on the deadline day.

It’s claimed the Ligue 1 side’s president, Pablo Longoria, has ‘set himself a goal of at least one big sale’. Ćaleta-Car has a contract until 2023 and allowing him to join David Moyes’ side today could help him achieve it.

According to the report, Longoria was ‘not yet satisfied’ with the conditions proposed by West Ham for the centre-back’s transfer. The English club, in parallel, are negotiating with Newcastle United for Issa Diop.

With regards to the Croatia international and West Ham, L’Equipe suggest ‘the situation is likely to change today’.

Marseille were keen to offload the 25-year-old last summer, but he wasn’t too keen on a transfer.

After initially being left out of Jorge Sampaoli’s plans, Ćaleta-Car regained his place in the team and has made 12 starts in the league this season.
