Everton are one of the sides ‘in the running’ for Lorenzo Insigne’s signature, should he leave Napoli on a free transfer next summer.
That’s according to Tuttosport, who cover the developing dispute between Insigne and Napoli and where he may end up next summer.
They explain that while Insigne has made it clear he would like to end his career in Naples, they are yet to offer him a deal that he can accept.
While there have been claims of an offer of €5m per year for five years, this has been ‘flatly denied’ by his agent, who revealed the real nature of the offer yesterday, telling Sport Mediaset: “Napoli has offered almost half of what he earns today, and of course we are dealing peacefully.”
The insinuation was that Napoli, chiefly president Aurelio de Laurentiis, are playing games and painting Insigne as the villain of the piece.
Tuttosport provide two names who are waiting to start talks, with Inter Milan the interested party in Italy, whilst ‘Everton are in the running’ when it comes to England.
They are both ‘in the first row’ of clubs who want to sign him and could offer Insigne the amount he imagined he would get from Napoli; €6m per season, €7m upon signing and the right to keep his own image rights. That’s around €125,000 a week, likely after tax.
These are also figures that Paris Saint Germain could offer without a ‘moment’s hesitation’, meaning there is stiff competition for his signature.
At the moment, Insigne still needs to figure out what’s going on with Napoli, but if it becomes clear that he’ll be leaving, then it appears Everton will be in the running to get him on a free.
