Aston Villa are ‘following’ Club Brugge defender Jack Hendry but could face competition from Brighton and Hove Albion for his signature.
That’s according to Voetbal Belgie, who say the defender’s performances have ‘aroused interest’ from the Premier League duo.
Hendry moved to Brugge for €4.5m in the summer, having spent last season on loan at KV Oostende from Celtic.
He established himself as a key player for Oostende after being ‘in the doldrums‘ at Celtic Park and has done the same for Brugge, with a series of impressive displays in the heart of their defence, particularly in the Champions League.
There is no mention of either club looking to make a move at this point or having held talks or anything of that nature, just that they’re watching the player at this point.
A move to Brighton certainly wouldn’t be surprising given the number of players they’ve signed from Belgium in recent years and the scouting they do in that country.
Aston Villa are less connected there than the Seagulls of late and don’t really need a centre back at this point, not unless someone like Tyrone Mings was to move on.
Both clubs are following the defender either way, so we’ll keep an eye on his name to see if there’s any developments ahead of January.
