As said by Jurgen Klopp following Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last night, the Reds’ win could’ve only been better if striker Roberto Firmino hadn’t got injured again.
The Brazilian left the pitch with a hamstring issue after only 33 minutes on the pitch, so despite the big result, there’s of course a little worry about his physical situation now.
After the match, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson had a word with the Brazilian media. The 29-year-old shared his thoughts about his teammate, claiming he hopes the striker will be fit to be with the national team next week.
“I hope it’s nothing serious,” Alisson told TNT Sports.
“I talked to him a bit. I believe that in these moments it’s more worry and precaution too. I believe he did well. The team already had the result in hand. Obviously respecting the opponent, but with one more player, it’s very difficult for something bad to happen to us, the way we were playing too.”
“He will probably have an exam there, normally this is the procedure. But I believe it’s nothing serious. I hope that soon he can be training, be playing, and that he won’t be left out of the national team either.”
Alisson was also quizzed about Salah and his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or next year, and highlighted that the Egyptian’s hard work makes him a serious candidate for the prize.
“For sure. He’s deserving yes, for what he’s been showing. Not only this season, he’s a very constant player. I believe that the Golden Ball votes counts with the other seasons as well. But it gets very difficult, there are a lot of players who deserve it.”
“If we talk about deserving, there are many players who… For example, Lewandowski, who’s a guy who’s been doing absurd things in recent seasons, breaking records. Salah too, breaking records. And other players out there with a lot of class winning titles. For sure, anyone who comes out a winner will be deserving.
“Salah is a guy who works a lot, a guy who works not only for him, but who works for the team as well. A guy who takes care of himself, a great professional. He’s certainly deserving, yes. I’ll definitely be very happy if he wins an award like this, because he is really someone who works really hard and helps us a lot. So surely he’s deserving.”
Liverpool now prepare for a trip to London where they play West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday.
Then Alisson, and possibly Firmino, are off to South America for the World Cup qualifiers.
