AS Roma’s interest in Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka emerged before the start of Euro 2020 and there were claims a deal was set to be concluded before the start of the tournament.

That hasn’t happened so far because the Serie A side weren’t meeting the fee demand by the Gunners.

On Thursday, Corriere dello Sport explained the Giallorossi owners are ready to ‘take the extra step’ to secure the midfielder’s services this summer.

There seems to be a new development on this front if the report from Calciomercato.it is to be believed.

According to the website, José Mourinho’s side are ‘about to close’ the deal and are ‘one step’ away from landing the Switzerland international.

It’s claimed the 28-year-old is getting ‘closer and closer’ to the Italian club and to do that, he has already rejected an approach made by an unnamed Serie A side.

The former Chelsea manager knows Xhaka well from his time in the Premier League and views the player as an ‘ideal reinforcement’ for Roma.

Calciomercato.it seem confident the deal will go through as they state ‘now it’s all done’ and ‘barring any surprises’, the transfer should be completed soon. Roma will pay €20m to Arsenal to sign Xhaka.
