Barcelona could be the next club pulling out of the European Super League, according to reports from Catalonia.
Club president Juan Laporta came out public today saying the club’s participation in the tournament is still subject to the member’s approval.
“Barca will not enter the Super League without the approval of the Assembly of Members. It’s they who decide, it’s their club,” he said (via Actualite Barça).
The news has been reported by TV3 (via Sport) as well. They highlight that back on the 8th of March, it was Laporta who included that condition as a clause in their contract with the ESL.
Earlier today, we’ve already seen reports claiming three founder clubs should be communicating their decision to leave very soon. The English press has been reporting that Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City are all giving up on the tournament following the negative reaction from their fanbases.
With more news on the Super League coming out every hour, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the competition collapsing before Barcelona even get the chance to call a vote about their participation.
