“War for Gabriel Jesus” is the headline of a full page article in Spanish newspaper Sport this Wednesday. The story sums up the situation of all the competitors, as the battle for the Brazilian wonderkid is still far from at an end.
According to the Catalan newspaper, both Manchester United and Manchester City contacted Gabriel’s agent and said they could outbid anyone in the race for the player. Even before scouting him, they were attracted to the price.
Barcelona have reportedly got far in talks with Palmeiras, Gabriel and his agent, but their first €19m offer was already turned down. They are expected to make a second attempt soon. Real Madrid would have contacted the player and his staff as well.
Three other clubs are also said to be on the race: Juventus, who were the first to make contacts; Inter Milan, who have shown their interest but are still to make an approach; and Bayern Munich, who are only being speculated due to the player’s contract clauses, and despite having made no contact so far, are considered to be strong contenders in case they go for the transfer.
Brazilian website Globo Esporte have an article today saying that Gabriel Jesus has promised Palmeiras he’s staying at least until the end of the year, when the Brazilian season ends.
Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG can all buy the player for €24m, and the release clause for all other clubs is €40m. These clubs would have a discount because of Gabriel’s dream to play for them.
Gabriel was called up for the Brazilian Olympic team this Wednesday, so the battle for the striker is expected to only grow during the tournament.
