Manchester City took Rúben Dias from Benfica last summer after being left frustrated in their efforts to sign Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.
Despite last summer’s failure, the centre-back is still a target for the Citizens. He is also wanted by Manchester United.
Journalist Niccolò Ceccarini provides this update in a column for TuttoMercatoWeb, where he states the 29-year-old is still on City’s radar, but warns: ‘watch out for United’
According to the Italian journalist, there ‘is a sort of duel’ between the Etihad club and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side for the defender.
He adds both the Manchester clubs have been looking for a ‘strong central defender for some time’, even though City bolstered their defence by adding Dias and Nathan Aké
to their squad.
Pep Guardiola’s side saw the Serie A side reject their €60m bid for Koulibaly last September. Ceccarini states: ‘Now the economic situation has changed, it is unlikely that these figures can be reached, but the pressure remains high.”
This would suggest the Senegal international’s valuation will be lowered for the summer. Napoli confirmed on Friday the player has recovered after testing positive for Covid-19 earlier this month.
Apart from Koulibaly, Ceccarini says Nikola Milenković is in Manchester United’s sights and the Serbian, who has a contract with Fiorentina until 2022, will ‘almost certainly not renew’ his contract.
