There’s been a few Italians who have flourished in Scottish football over the years, with Massimo Donati being one of them.
The former midfielder, who came through the ranks at Atalanta before being bought by Milan in 2001, spent two years at Celtic between 2007 and 2009, and then finished his career with spells at Hamilton Academical (2016-18) and St. Mirren (2018).
He travelled Italian football in between, but once he retired, he stuck around, becoming the assistant manager at Kilmarnock to kick off his coaching career.
That’s why, with Milan playing Celtic in the Europa League on Thursday evening, he’s the perfect man to talk to about the clash, having played for both sides.
He said: “I went to Celtic where I had a crazy experience both human and professional. A beautiful and unforgettable parenthesis for many reasons”.
As for his future, he explained: “I was Angelo Alessio’s second at Kilmarnock, and now I would like to start my career as head coach. I’m doing my master’s in Coverciano. I have big plans”.
Whether that would be in Scotland or in Italy, he hinted: “I am a man of the world. I will go where there is the right situation to start”.
