With West Ham now safe in the Premier League, David Moyes and his staff can focus on bolstering their squad over the summer in order to avoid a repeat of this season.

Officially avoiding relegation on the penultimate round of fixtures with a 1-1 draw against Manchester United, the Hammers will need to change a few things going forward, and the defence is one area the Scottish manager will be looking at.

One of the names to have popped up is that of Sven Botman, currently contracted to Ajax Amsterdam and of interest to many clubs, including West Ham and Watford.

The situation for the Hornets is far more precarious than that of Moyes’ side, and their future transfer plans could very well change dramatically in the next few days.

However, for now, both are interested in Botman, according to Foot Mercato, alongside Lille, Rennes and Udinese.

It’s Christophe Galtier’s side who have the greatest advantage here, as LOSC have an agreement with Ajax and with the player already sorted, but the move hasn’t been made official yet.

That’s because the club are currently waiting to sell Gabriel Magalhães before doing anything.

This is where Watford and West Ham come in, said to be ‘alert’ to the situation and ‘dream of pulling a dirty trick’ by sniping Botman from under Lille’s nose.

The French side will need to speed things up if they don’t want to miss out, because the Premier League is about to finish and their clubs are about to wake up on the transfer market.
