Starting off strong with a bid for Alexandre Lacazette, West Ham’s hunt for a new striker saw the names of players linked with the club become less and less glamorous.
Eventually signing Jonathan Calleri and Simone Zaza, both on loan, the Hammers came very close to agreeing a deal with AC Milan’s Carlos Barca.
Scoring six goals in his first 10 appearances of the season, the 30-year-old is once again showcasing his ability to find the back of the net, something Slaven Bilic’s current strikers are struggling to do.
But, as explained by the player’s agent Sergio Barila in an interview with El Heraldo in Colombia, West Ham’s offer just wasn’t quite what the player wanted.
He said: “There were various clubs interested, but what Carlos prioritised was the football aspect and the best for his family, not the financial. He’s very happy in Italy. He’s happy in Milan, and the club are happy with him.”
Asked if he was talking about West Ham and PSG, he continued: “If an offer interests both, then a transfer could be done, but for now, there is no such option. There is no reason for Bacca to leave AC Milan”.
Considering neither West Ham or AC Milan currently play in Europe, it appears Bacca preferred staying in Italy if his wage was the only thing that would change in his life
And considering Milan are currently third in Serie A (albeit with a game in hand), and West Ham are 15th in the Premier League, his choice, so far, has been a good one.
