Liverpool and Wolves look likely to miss out on Salzburg striker He-Chan Hwang, with him set to join RB Leipzig.
That’s according to Sky Germany, who report that the Bundesliga side have moved quickly to replace the departing Timo Werner.
Werner has completed a move to Chelsea, with the Blues moving to secure his signature ahead of the competition, namely Liverpool.
That has left the Saxony club desperately trying to find a replacement for a striker who is the top goalscorer in the history of the club and has 34 goals in 45 games this season.
They report that the striker, who has impressed for Salzburg this season with 11 goals and 21 assists in 38 games, has ‘opted’ for Leipzig and is ‘expected’ to cost around €10m.
The German club were not the only ones keen, with Wolves and Liverpool both described as having ‘recently expressed interest’ too.
Wolves interest is nothing new, with reports back in December that they were keen and had even had sporting director Kevin Thelwell scout him when Salzburg took on Liverpool in the Champions League.
The Reds interest is seemingly new but not all that shocking. They already signed Takumi Minamino from Salzburg in January so will likely have been aware of Hwang’s performances as well.
Indeed, there’s every chance they were looking at him as a low-cost addition in the same vein as the Japanese star, but have now seemingly been beaten to the chase by Leipzig.
