A regular for Bayer Leverkusen ever since transferring from Wolfsburg back in 2014, Julian Brandt is attracting a lot of attention with his performances, especially from Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga champions have been after him ever since he was 14, and missed out on signing him when the youngster chose Bayer over them two years ago.
The German magazine have revealed in their Wednesday edition that a secret clause is currently in place in Julian Brandt’s contract with Leverkusen, allowing him to leave for as little as €12.5m (£11.2m) in the summer of 2018.
This means the player, and Leverkusen, don’t have to worry about anything next summer, as the club can just refuse any offer sent their way, but unless they make him sign a new deal, 2018 could be a complicated year for them.
SportBild explain the club are already trying to get something done about it, whether it is a removal of the clause or a significant increase, and have opened talks with the player’s father, Jürgen, who also happens to be his agent.
Frankly, if this is true, and Brandt Jr. & Sr. refuse to do anything about it, we can see a long queue of teams stumbling over each other to try and get a terrific deal for the young winger.
It won’t just be Chelsea and Manchester City.
