Most Wolverhampton Wanderers fans will certainly remember how chaotic Rui Patrício’s departure from Sporting was back in 2018.
Due to bad results and a toxic atmosphere at the end of the 2017/18 season, the club’s squad was attacked by their own supporters at the Alcochete training centre, in an incident which led several players to rescind their contracts with the Lions.
Rui Patrício had been one of the biggest targets at the time, and even when playing in the cup final after the incident, a group of fans threw flares at him during the game.
Investigations about that episode are still going on, with president Bruno de Carvalho, who was Sporting president at the time, even being accused of ordering the attacks.
And in a statement made by a staff member on Monday, insults from Bruno de Carvalho towards Rui Patrício have been revealed. Ricardo Gonçalves, who used to be the chief of security, says it happened in a meeting held two days after a defeat to Atletico Madrid.
As reported by O Jogo, the statement says Bruno de Carvalho called the Wolves player “ungrateful, diva, star and spoiled”. Even though the staff member was outside the room, it was possible to hear the president’s words.
It’s also been stated that in the same meeting, midfielder William Carvalho accused Bruno of calling one of Sporting’s fan groups to order them to ‘threaten and attack’ the players.
