Chelsea unwilling to pay €12m asking price to sign South American

 

Lucas Boye joined Torino from River Plate in the summer, with the club having agreed on the terms of the deal earlier.

However, the Argentine forward may well have ended up at Chelsea had circumstances been different. Toro.it reports on Thursday that Chelsea were interested in signing the player before Torino and even got to the stage of talks with River Plate.

The Argentine club told Chelsea their asking price was €12m, and that was deemed too high by the Premier League side. Chelsea’s plan had been to buy the player and loan him out immediately, giving them the chance to either make a profit in the future or to bring him into their squad.

Turning their nose up at the €12m, Chelsea allowed to Torino to move in. Interestingly, Toro.it says the Italian club in the end did a deal for Boye at a little less than €2m, including commission to agents.

The difference in prices sounds barely believable, even if it’s claimed Torino managed to use some kind of collaboration to get there.
