Already interested in Sadio Mané last summer, Real Madrid’s chase of the Senegalese star looked to have been put to bed when they signed Eden Hazard from Chelsea.

However, Soccer Link in France claim that despite bringing in the Belgian, Zinedine Zidane still wanted to work with the Liverpool player, and took matter into his own hands.

The website explain the manager picked up his phone and called Mané personally to let him know of his plans, with the forward quite ‘happy’ at the idea of doing so.

But two factors played against the pair’s desire to work together: Liverpool and Florentino Pérez.

The former were obviously very reluctant to part ways with one of their big stars, as only a ‘stupendous’ offer would have changed their mind.

Over at Real Madrid, the club’s president ‘didn’t see the need’ to sign yet another winger after the arrival of Hazard and Rodrygo, meaning signing Many wasn’t top of his priorities.

There’s always next year, Zinedine, but if true, this story further emphasises how bad the rift is between the manager and his boss, already on show throughout the summer transfer window thanks to Paul Pogba.
