One of the bigger Chelsea sagas of the summer, the transfer of Kalidou Koulibaly to Stamford Bridge never materialised, and David Luiz was bought in the Senegalese footballer’s stead.
Much was made by the Italian media about a possible release clause in the centre-back’s new deal with the Serie A side, but it would appear, according to Il Mattino, that the contract renewal is release clause free.
This, of course, is perfect for the Italian side, who can reject as much as they want for their star defender, and, according to the player’s agent, Koulibaly wouldn’t be too unhappy if they did.
Bruno Satin told ll Mattino: “Of course Kalidou is happy, he got what he wanted. The Premier League? He’s not thinking about that anymore, as he’s shown in the recent games. He has a lot of faith in this project.”
It’s almost as if all this talk in the summer of Koulibaly wanting to desperately leave Napoli from his agent was all a ruse to get a new contract at the Serie A club.
Almost.
