There are several big transfers still to be done this summer and Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich is one of them.
The Manchester City star has been linked with a move to the Allianz for several months and, although both parties have denied anything is going on, it was clear that the smoke equalled fire.
Well, it seems a deal is now very close, and Express, a German newspaper, have all the details on the move, including why it’s taken so long.
First, the numbers. Express report that Manchester City and Bayern had an agreement three months ago for €100m and that is all finalised. It was negotiations with Sane over his wages that held things up as the player was demanding too much.
He has now found an agreement with Bayern, though, and will earn €15m a year, €2m more than Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery were making combined.
The move is imminent, and Express say that Bayern’s decision to delay their team photo, which will now happen after the start of the season, was made so that they could include Sane in the photographs.
Bild back up the suggestion it’s on the cards and say Sane will miss tomorrow’s Community Shield clash, in which Manchester City take on Liverpool, to avoid any injury that could scupper the transfer.
Sane won’t be going to a training camp with Bayern next week, but it’s believed his return to Germany is imminent, and if it is, it will be interesting to see how City respond given their first choice to replace him, Mike Oyarzabal, has declared his intention to reject any approach this summer.
A replacement will have be necessary, though, and with €100m from Sane’s departure in their pocket, City could be set for an exciting end to the transfer window after all.
