Leeds United boss wanted additions after missing out on West Ham and Arsenal targets

 

Leeds United boss Garry Monk has revealed he would have liked to bring in at least one more forward in the last transfer window. The Championship side were linked with strikers this summer, including Ashley Fletcher and Yaya Sanogo.

The YEP have reported on comments Monk made in the lead up to tonight’s clash with Blackburn Rovers in which he said the ideal solution was to strengthen in attack. Monk believes if they were able to bring in another attacker this would have added competition to the squad, and given him more options.

Monk said he spoke about this during the summer, but the club never brought anybody in: “I think one (more) striker would have been the perfect situation in terms of competition and the size of that department. I talked about that before the window closed.”

Leeds United made eleven new signings in the last transfer window, but the only recognised forward they brought in was Marcus Antonsson from Swedish side Kalmar.

The Championship club did make an attempt to sign Fletcher on loan from West Ham United’s after he moved to the East London side from Manchester United.
