Last week, we relayed news from France that Liverpool are ‘well placed’ to sign Nicolas Pepe in the summer transfer window.
Le10 Sport states the interest from the Reds is real. The Merseyside club’s manager, Jurgen Klopp ‘loves’ the Ivory Coast international and wants his employer to position themselves for the winger’s transfer.
Therefore, the Champions League winners have ‘forwarded a transfer offer’ to the Ligue 1 side, which has not convinced the latter, who have already received two other important proposals from elsewhere.
The French website doesn’t reveal any details of the Liverpool offer.
Klopp has the services of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah as the first choice players to lead their attack, with Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri as back-up options.
Despite having several options, the report states Pepe’s case is gaining momentum and it could even disrupt the good atmosphere at the club following their recent success in the European competition.
Wondering Why?
This is because the former Borussia Dortmund manager is not on the same page with Liverpool’s recruiting team and at the heart of the tensions is said to be Salah.
The European media love a Salah-strife story.
The relationship between the Egypt international and Klopp is said to be complicated, which is why the manager would not block the star’s sale, especially if it can help his side sign Pepe.
These claims are hard to be believe, especially when Klopp and Salah’s agent have publicly rubbished similar reports previously.
If Liverpool’s decision to sign Pepe hinges on Salah possibly leaving the club, then it’s unlikely for the former to end up at Liverpool.
