Following Romelu Lukaku’s transfer flirting minutes after Belgium’s 3-0 win over Scotland on Tuesday, the Italian press are all giddy about the possibility of seeing the striker in Serie A next season.

Of course, huge obstacles stand in the way of this deal actually happening, namely the £70m fee Manchester United are asking for, but most of the parties are willing to work hard to try and get something done.

Corriere dello Sport on Friday claim a meeting took place on Thursday evening between Federico Pastorello, Lukaku’s agent, and Inter, where a ‘broad agreement’  regarding personal terms has been reached.

However, the Italian newspaper make it clear that, as things stand, the Serie A club simply cannot afford Manchester United’s demands, only making it possible if the Premier League club accept a makeweight player in the deal.

Unfortunately, Milan Skriniar is off the table, while the Red Devils have no interest in either Ivan Perisic or Mauro Icardi, complicating things even more.

Inter’s best bet, for now, is to sell the Argentine for money, thus giving them the funds to acquire the Belgian.

We’re at a bit of an impasse right now, despite Lukaku’s best efforts to get something going.
