On Monday, we’ve covered a story from O Jogo which said Leicester City had promised Adrién Silva they will make another attempt to sign him in January.
Portuguese clubs usually set a high release clause for their best players and push for it until the end. Cases where they give up relatively easily are rare but include João Mário and Renato Sanches, who had a €60m clause and were sold for about €40m, the latter with a whole load of bonuses added.
That’s why O Jogo has good news for Leicester City today. They claim that after the failed negotiations, Sporting will offer Adrién Silva a new contract to reward him for his loyalty to the club. This would sound discouraging for the interested club, but they won’t raise his release clause.
According to the newspaper, Silva currently earns around €1.2m per season and will have his wages raised to €1.75m.
It’s worth remembering that recent reports said Leicester offered him four times more than he earned in Portugal, so the change isn’t very big if compared to what he’d make in England.
The contract’s expiry date will continue to be 2020, and the €45m release clause will stay the same. It means that if Leicester still want him, the conditions haven’t changed much. And given the player’s will to join the Foxes, an agreement with Sporting is all they need.
