Leeds United attacker Pablo Hernandez has revealed it would be the greatest achievement in his career if he can help the Championship side to the Premier League.

The Spaniard has been in impressive form for the Elland Road club this season and he’s been recognised by football fans across the country after being named the second best player in the EFL, following a poll conducted by FourFourTwo.

In an interview with the magazine, Hernandez was asked about the season so far: “It has been really positive. All around the club, there’s been excitement to end 15 years away from the Premier League. It feels so close. This city deserves a Premier League team. It’d be the best achievement of my career if we go up.”

The former Valencia man added, when asked about fans voting for him: “Honestly it gives me so much pride and joy. I’d change any of these individual awards if it meant Leeds go up, but it’s lovely for supporters from other clubs to recognise your worth in this way, especially at my age!”

Hernandez has been key in Leeds United’s’ promotion push this season and he’s been fundamental in Marcelo Bielsa implementing his philosophy. The 34-year-old has scored ten goals and contributed eleven assists in this campaign.

Subsequently this has resulted in the player being voted the second best in the EFL, behind Norwich City forward Teemu Pukki.

However, there’s been controversy this week that the Leeds United star hasn’t been included in the EFL team of the year, with fans of the Yorkshire club unhappy at their man being overlooked.
