On November 13th, we covered a report from Germany which said Dodi Lukebakio could be an option for Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.
With the German champions having a poor start to their Bundesliga campaign and needing improvement in the squad options, the Watford owned player was seen as one of a number of options.
Rheinische Post described the 21 year old as ‘Fast, powerful and technically savvy’ but he wouldn’t come cheap and they worried about the price. Given he’s owned by a Premier League team, it was thought Lukebakio would be ‘very expensive’.
Well, that potential price is only going up.
Watford loaned the player to Fortuna Dusseldorf in the summer and at the weekend he had his best match so far… against Bayern Munich.
He scored a hat-trick and was clearly Man of the Match as his team came from behind to secure a 3-3 draw away from home.
With the youngster being Belgian, and representing the country at U21 level, his performance has excited the country’s media. HLN have managed to get a few words with the Watford owned player, about a match he describes as “My best game ever”.
“Was my name really on all foreign football sites?” (Laughs) It was a unique moment, and I also noticed the many messages I received, especially those from my family, who could barely control their tears.”
There’s no purchase option in the loan deal, Watford weren’t interested in one. The Hornets will be delighted with the player’s progress and especially his performance against Bayern.
