Manchester United’s interest in Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini is nothing new, dating back to last January, and now, with the Red Devils struggling in the Premier League and the transfer window just around the corner, it’s returned.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the player’s agent was very recently in England for a ‘blitz’, where he received an offer from the Old Trafford based club.

During said encounter, Manchester United are reported to have put forward the terms of a potential contract, one that would see the 22-year-old’s salary ‘more than double’.

This offer by José Mourinho’s side is said to have left Pellegrini ‘torn’ between two choices that could each define his future.

On the one hand, there’s the ability to, like Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi, stay at Roma for his entire career.

On the other, there’s the ‘legitimate’ aspiration to have an international adventure, with the Premier League a realistic option following Manchester United’s contract proposal.

As things stand, Pellegrini is said to prefer a stay at Roma, having settled in the city, but he’s waiting for more reassurances from the club.

Over at Roma, the player’s release clause remains the main issue, since it stands at €30m, payable in two instalments by the purchasing club.

With this in mind, the Serie A side are working on a renewal proposal, one that would either not include a release clause or increase it.

Corriere also point out Manchester United aren’t the only interested side, but they offer no alternative names as of yet.

If that clause does exist, and the fact multiple sources have reported it suggests it does, then the Red Devils probably should try and trigger it for January, especially if Pellegrini is ‘torn’ about his future.

You know, help him make his mind up and all that.
