Back towards the end of October, we covered some rather exciting news emerging from the Paraguayan press claiming that West Ham had beaten Arsenal and Tottenham to the signing of Miguel Almiron.
The attacking midfielder, currently contracted to Atlanta United in the MLS, was said to be the subject of a future £25.7m offer, which we suspect would lead to a January transfer.
Having scored 12 goals and picked up 13 assists for the American side this season, the 24-year-old would be set to add more creativity to Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
Since then, we haven’t heard all that much until Tuesday when his agent, Daniel Campos, spoke to Monumental Radio in Paraguay on their show Futbol a lo Grande.
Playing down the immediacy of the West Ham transfer, he did, however, pour some fuel over the rumours sending his client to England.
He said: “There’s interest for Almiron and Oscar Romero. I’m working towards England, where for Miguel Almiron there’s two or three interested clubs.
And: “There’s nothing concrete, but I’m sure that Almiron will play in the Premier League.”
Good news, to a certain extent, but it appears that the previous claims about West Ham winning the race might have been a little ahead of themselves.
