On Thursday, a story popped up on Calciomercato that AS Roma were interested in Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen, who has yet to step foot onto a Premier League pitch this season.

Featuring twice in the Europa League and once in the EFL Cup, the Danish defender isn’t getting the game time required to progress as a 22-year-old footballer, which is where the Italians would come in.

Calciomercato stated it would be via a loan, but it remains to be seen if what they have to offer is much better than his current situation at Stamford Bridge.

Corriere dello Sport on Friday piggyback off that information, and explain Monchi is ‘very much interested’ by Christensen, but only as a third option behind starters Federico Fazio and Kostas Manolas.

Considering the pair have started all but one game together this season, and Eusebio di Francesco’s side are finally finding some form, they might be tough to displace, and the last thing Christensen will want to do is go to a new club hoping someone gets injured so he can have some minutes.

The other option for Roma is Atlético Mineiro’s Iago Maidana, who might be far happier to play rotation with Manolas and Fazio, seeing as this would be his first experience in Europe.
